Book Review

"Health, Healing, & Beyond: Yoga & The Living Tradition Of Krishnamacharya" By T.K.V. Desikachar

This beautiful looking book, written with clarity and honesty by Krishnamacharya's son, offers a biographical profile of the teacher of many of modern Yoga's greatest exponents - including B.K.S. Iyengar, K.Pattabhi Jois, and Desikachar himself - and provides both the adept and novice a fascinating glimpse into the ancient scientific art of Yoga.

Desikachar's lively account traces his father's unparalleled labors and mastery of scholarship that made Krishnamacharya an authority without equal.

Krishnamacharya lived in a cave in the north of India with his guru for years at a time memorizing ancient scriptures and enduring physical disciplines far beyond modern comprehension. His ability to heal through his extensive knowledge of Yoga and Ayurvedic medicine continues to influence contemporary teachers.

Both accesible and literate, this affectionate portrayal of a very complicated man will begin to give the reader a historically lucid understanding of the ancient wisdom and teachings of this five thousand year old tradition.

This is one book that can definitely be judged by its cover!
